This position is primarily responsible for working EPIC work queues for both pro fee and hospital billing. This person will code in the queues and get claims out the door in a timely fashion. Critical to this position is understanding the importance of accuracy, timeliness, and efficiency in processing account transactions. This staff person must demonstrate proficiency in detail oriented tasks that affect the Department of Radiology's accounts receivable.
Monitor billing reports to identify, investigate and solve problems; analyze information and make recommendations to management.
Responsible for working IR on a daily bases.
Manage work queues to ensure late charges stay low.
Maintain proper records and files of activities.
Use comprehensive knowledge and compliance of HIPAA rules in the dissemination of patient Protected Health Information (PHI) working knowledge of JHU and Billing Applications utilize online resources to facilitate job duties.
Responsible for all aspects of coding, quality assurance and compliance of legal requirements.
Works closely with Office of Billing Quality Assurance to include review of documentation.
Serves as departmental expert on coding questions.
Exercises independent judgment and decision making on a regular basis.
Holds bills and seeks corrective action for services not meeting documentation requirements in accordance with CPA policies.
Researches and answers billing and documentation questions or problems submitted by faculty, department, billing staff, and others to ensure compliance with specific payer regulations and CPA policies and procedures.
Supports department compliance efforts through participation in department training and education programs relative to specific product lines in accordance with established policies.
Conducts feedback/training sessions for physicians to present the results of medical record documentation as warranted. When necessary participate in on-going educational activities, as required assist with other billing functions, or duties, when assigned Faculty Qualifications.
This position will be required to work with physicians in regards to the correct surgical CPT code assignment.
Code interventional radiology and surgical cases utilizing the correct code assignments when necessary.
Post of hospital/physician reversal and charges and research of denials and clinical staff on coding issues.
Code interventional radiology (lVR), utilizing the correct code assignments, including the assignment of ICO-10, CPT/HCPC codes for both facility and professional billing.
2 yrs related CPT + ICD9 coding experience required, including coding from medical record documents.
Recent experience with Medicare regulations.
Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
